President’s Letter – February, 2005

By Cindy Christen

Greetings fellow Skålleagues! Wow this month flew by and we are deep into March already. It's been a very busy month for me and that's why I'm getting this letter out kind of late. As you know during this time of year you get a lot of company and then after that you get worn down and get sick as in my case. So, please pardon the lateness.

Our February meeting was held at Benvenuto's in Boynton Beach. We were happy to see that Wayne Lambert one of our newest members was able to attend, and overall we had a very good turnout. The food was excellent and the restaurant had a really nice atmosphere for our meeting.

During our board meeting the club was informed that our regional SKAL SIUSA board denied the name change for the club from Skal of the Palm Beaches to Skal of the Palm Beaches and Ft. Lauderdale. At this time we are looking at other alternatives for a name change and will discuss this further at our next board meeting. As usual we will keep you posted.

March's meeting is set for March 15th at Boca Raton Marriott. Larry Magor, General Manager of the Boca Raton Marriott and one of our new members is planning a fun and entertaining evening for the club. Be sure to RSVP to Dick Stafford rwstafford@earthlink.net or 561 627-8859 by Friday, March 11.

In addition to our regular meeting in March Sandy Saposnick has offered to host our club with a luncheon onboard the MSC Lirica, Thursday, March 31. We will be able to accommodate 40 SKAL and potential new members on the MSC Lirica in Port Everglades. The ship inspection followed by lunch begins at 11:30a.m. This is a great opportunity to bring potential new members into the club, invite them to lunch, and see a beautiful ship! Please RSVP with you and your guest names, phone number and birth date (required for boarding the ship at the port) by March 15th to Sandy Saposnick at Ssaposnick@msccruisesusa.com

Our April 19th meeting location will be at the Waterford Hotel in West Palm Beach. As you know our April meeting is the installation of new officers and board. This meeting has not been included in your dues and will be an additional charge of $50 per person. This can be paid in advance to Paul Alterman at 7859 NW 5th Place, Plantation, FL 33324. Please remember that the club no longer accepts credit cards for payment.

Boat Party Notice: Sheila Schwartz from Lots of Yachts has invited all SKAL members and guests to a "Pisces Party" on board the Mariner III. It will be Sunday, March 13th from 5-8p. The yacht is docked at the Palm Beach Yacht Club, located at 800 Flagler Dr, Palm Beach. You need to be there by 5:15p and RSVP to Sheila at 561-242-4753 or via e-mail at: lotsofyachts@aol.com. Sheila is celebrating her birthday as well as her recovery from her accident, so come and celebrate with her. Sheila promises a great party while you are cruising with lots of great food and music.

We would like to profile each of our members on our website www.skalpalmbeaches.org. We will be sending you a profile form to complete that we will use to put you live on the web, and help you gain more networking capability. Be sure to check the website for all club news and updates.

Mark your calendars for next month's meeting, as we need everyone's participation to welcome our new officers and board for the new year. Bring us your interesting ideas or recommendations for upcoming venues. Get involved!

SKAL!
