President’s Letter – September, 2005

By Dick Stafford

Greetings Fellow Skålleagues!

We held our first dinner after the summer break at Pranzo’s Restaurant at Mizner Park in Boca Raton. Due to the hurricane that night (second year in a row) our turnout was smaller than usual with 15 members attending. The restaurant did a great job providing us with excellent food and service. During the meeting we had the pleasure of inducting Lou Frazer into the club. Lou was very kind in telling us his thoughts about his uncle – Paul Bell who passed away recently. As everyone knows Paul was the founding President of our club.

You have all received the following invitation to a Celebration of Paul’s life scheduled for October 15th.

Please join us in a Celebration of Paul Bell’s life

Saturday October 15th, 2005
St. Andrews Club
4475 North Ocean Boulevard
Delray Beach, Florida 33483
5:00 pm-8:00 pm

We will share Paul Bell stories and pictures and remember his unforgettable life

(For more information please contact Susan Latham at (949) 858-6745 or email thelathams@cox.net)

We also discussed the efforts by SKAL to assist the members in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast who have been effected by hurricane Katrina with the Relief Fund. Thanks to David Semadeni for starting a collection during the dinner to add to the monies already sent in to the club for our contribution to the SKAL Katrina Relief Fund. We will be sending over $600.00 to the fund on behalf of our members. If you have not made a contribution as yet and would like to, please send your check to Paul Alterman.

The summer golf tournament that was re-scheduled twice due to hurricane Dennis and other conflicts has been cancelled for this year. With everyone’s travel schedules and the continued concerns about our weather there were not enough members available to play this fall. We will look forward to having a great tournament next summer.

Our next special event is the cruise that Lee Smolinski has arranged for the club. Lee will be donating his commission to the club on each cabin that is booked through his website so that the cruise will be a fundraiser for the club.

Saturday & Sunday November 5-6, 2005 – You are invited to join your fellow Skalleagues on a 1-night cruise aboard the brand new ship The Norwegian Jewel departing from the port of Miami. The Norwegian ship features freestyle cruising with 10 restaurants, a casino, showroom and an array of leisure and sporting activities. The cost per person for an inside cabin is $139.00, an oceanview cabin is $149.00 per person and a balcony cabin is $199.00 per person. Boarding will start at approximately 1:30 PM on Saturday. The ship will sail at 4PM and return to Miami at 7AM on Sunday. The price includes lunch, dinner, breakfast, all taxes and fees. Please book the cruise and select your stateroom directly by clicking on the following website link:

NCL has had very good response to this cruise with some cabin classifications already sold out so please don’t be left on shore - make your arrangements through the website link above ASAP.

Once we know how many members and guests will be on board, Lee will see if we can reserve one of the specialty restaurants for the club to have dinner together.

Wayne Lampert announced the locations for our dinner meeting for the remainder of the year. They are:
October 18th Cypress Creek Marriott – Ft. Lauderdale
November 15th Heart of Palm Beach Hotel – Palm Beach
December 13th Bridge Resort – Boca Raton – Dinner Dance

Don’t forget to check the clubs website for additional club news. www.skalpalmbeaches.org

Looking forward to seeing everyone in October.
