President’s Letter – February, 2007By Dick Stafford Greetings Fellow Skålleagues! The club returned to the West Palm Marriott for our February dinner meeting and again was treated to an outstanding 5 course meal by Tim Digby. Needless to say, no one went home hungry. At the conclusion of the dinner Tim introduced his staff to a standing ovation. We were joined at the dinner by several guests including Miami SKAL Club member Sheila Schwartz who was celebrating her birthday, Chicago SKAL Club member Art Stark, Ottawa SKAL Club member Ken Birch, Mike Hartfield, Ron Stevens, Nancy Kainer, Judy Berlin, Marie Wright and Wolfgang Baere. On a sadder note, the club was informed that Cindy Christen's father recently passed away and Gary Cole, a previous member of our club was killed last month in a motorcycle accident. Scotty Cassidy has been admitted to the hospital for surgery. The board reported that the club lost five members in January who did not renew their memberships for 2007 due to relocation and business situations. Although we regret the loss of members the number was far below the average annual loss of members for all clubs throughout the world. Our current 43 members will increase to 45 this month with the two new applications now in process. With your help, we are looking forward to another year of continued growth in membership. This year's annual Installation of Officers Dinner will be held at the Hilton Hotel at the Palm Beach Airport. The black tie event will also celebrate our 30th anniversary as an active SKAL Club. Fred Ghadimi the Hilton's General Manager and Michael Wright the Hilton's Director of Sales, both new SKAL members, are planning a very special evening for us. We will be joined at the dinner by Mok Singh from Los Angeles - the President of SIUSA and Abelardo Vara from Cancun - the President of NAASC. During the evening, in addition to inducting several new SKAL members into our club and the installation of the new officers for 2007, we will be honoring the 9 current members of our SKAL club who have served you as past Presidents. Please look at you travel schedules and make sure that you and your guest will be able to attend this important club function. The locations for our upcoming meetings are:
March 20, 2007 - we will be at Mario's Restaurant in Boca Raton.
