Greetings Fellow Skalleagues!
The Renaissance Hotel, Boca Raton served as our hosts for our March dinner meeting. As always, the hotel food & service was excellent!
We were extremely happy to have 7 guests in attendance including:
Stefan Richter, Former Member
Anne Walleser, Guest of Al Walleser
Ed Warren - Guest of Al Walleser / Alpine Adventure
Joanne Warren - Guest of Al Walleser / Alpine Adventure
Nancy Williams - Guest of Gail Gruenbaum / Our Lucaya
Ric Gannon – Guest of Alex Gannon
Velsa Jakobsen - Skal Norway Member & Guest of Cloie Morales
Dean Morton – Former Member, Guest of Bill Decker
The March meeting was our annual business meeting with the following items presented to the membership for approval:
-
Proposal to have a dues increase from $126 to $150 for 2011 was proposed by the Board of Directors. Following discussion, where
it was pointed out that SIUSA & Skal International are anticipating dues increases and the fact that we have not had a local increase
in a number of years, which makes it difficult to achieve our budgets, the members in attendance voted to accept the increase in dues.
-
Proposal to move our December meeting date from December 23, 2010 to Thursday, December 16, 2010. The Board of Directors made this
proposal based upon the fact that December 23rd is too close to the Christmas Holiday. Following discussion, the members voted to
accept the change in date for the annual holiday party to December 16, 2010. Dick Stafford will contact The Bridge Hotel to check
their availability.
Your board of directors is excited to be working on several fun events for the Summer and Fall. Paul Alterman and his committee are
reviewing charitable options for our Fall fund-raiser. Should you have any suggestions, please let Paul know prior to the March meeting.
Watch for forthcoming details!
Paul Alterman and his committee are moving forward with plans for the Fall Charity Fund-Raiser with tentative plans to hold this event
in September. Paul will provide more information at our May meeting. Contact Paul should you have any suggestions or would like to help.
Art Stark is planning the Summer Social and is seeking ideas for a fun social evening.
Ben Murphy encouraged members to attend Skal International and NAASC meetings. Specifically, he encouraged members to go to the NAASC
conference in Quebec, Canada in May. Ben pointed out that the people of Quebec are extremely welcoming and that the city and surrounding
areas have many sites which should not be missed.
YOUR Board of Directors’ continues to seek to make SKAL / Ft. Lauderdale & Palm Beaches an organization where each member is an integral
part of our success! We encourage you to share your ideas for upcoming activities which will help us to have more camaraderie and
interaction. PLEASE, feel free to share with us any suggestions which you may have for activities / fundraisers / guest speakers!
