President’s Letter – May, 2006

Greetings Fellow Skålleagues!

Our dinner meeting was held on May 16th at the Airport Hilton Hotel in West Palm Beach. The evening started with complimentary cocktails and Hors d'Oeuvres in the lounge followed by a wonderful meal in the ballroom were all of our members enjoyed their Beef Wellington or Seafood Stuffed Lobster Tails. Thanks to Denis Herron who hosted a wonderful evening for us at the Hilton. We look forward to Denis rejoining our SKAL club in the near future.

We had the pleasure of inducting Joe Ogni as a new member during the evening. As usual it was good to have Jan West of the Washington DC Club with us. Jan has completely recovered from his hip replacement surgery.

Lee Smolinski gave the club a briefing on the NAASC Congress Cruise which was held last week. In spite of the high winds and rough seas the congress, attended by over 700 Skalleagues and guests, was a very enjoyable event.

We gave an update on this year's golf tournament which will take place on Saturday June 10th. The tournament will be held at the Winston Trails Golf Club in Lake Worth. Paul Cook will need some assistance with the tournament - please contact Paul to let him know what you would like to do to help. Nancy and Bernhard Kainer volunteered to handle the registration for the tournament. Thanks to Tim Digby, we have some great auction prizes for the golfers to bid on. As you know, our semi-annual auctions are major fund raisers for the club that enable us to support the charities that are sponsored by SKAL International and our own club. June 10th is only 3 weeks away. Paul has sent out the flyers about the tournament so get your foursomes together and sign up. For those of you who will be single golfers, Paul will take care of the pairings. Thanks again to Lou Frazer for providing a great room rate at the Holiday Inn in Boynton Beach for our out of town participants.

Bill Pullen spoke about this years summer Region IV Congress that will be held August 25 - 27 in Sarasota. Don't forget to mark your calendars for those dates. Our club originated the event and is always well represented. I am sure that this year will be no different.

Our location for our last dinner meeting before our summer break is:

June 20, 2006 - we will be at the Buca Di Beppo Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale. This is a fun Italian restaurant and we will enjoy a variety of taste tempting foods served family style so come casual.
