President’s Letter May, 2014
We are off to a fun year and you aren’t going to miss any of our upcoming meetings!
The Mai Kai Restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale was a perfect setting for our first meeting of the new year! We started out with drinks and appetizers on the Lanai Porch overlooking the tropical beautiful gardens. Carlos presented our new member, Joe Pereira, with his pin and certificate. Joe, we’re happy to have you as a new member!
There were 25 members and guests who were seated directly in front of the stage for dinner and an evening of drums, dancing and singing with the Polynesian Island Revue. The added entertainment was when Carlos (with bare feet and dressed in his own sarong) was taken on stage to join the dancers. Carlos I didn’t know you could shake it like that! Don’t forget to check our website for pictures of the event www.skal-ftlauderdale-palmbeaches.org and to get more information on our club and the upcoming Skål Monthly Reception and Meeting.
Now are you ready for our next fun Skål adventure? We are headed to the National Croquet Center on June 17th in West Palm Beach for food, drink and instructors to teach us how to play croquet. For the ladies remember no heels on the grass fields. Now of course, we aren’t forcing you to learn how to play this fun game so join us to mingle with your Skål friends and enjoy this beautiful venue out on the veranda. Check out their website! www.croquetnational.com.
I really think you need to get your calendar out because I’m going to give you one more exciting event. We are going to have our Industry Summer Social and Fundraiser on July 31st. Dick Stafford will be sending out more details shortly!
Your Board of Directors will be focused this year on increasing membership and maintaining the members we have. Young Skål is our future so we will be reaching out to the Hospitality Programs at our local universities and getting the word out about what Skål International represents. We want to make our meetings interesting by finding fun venues and inviting speakers to increase our knowledge of our industry. If you have any suggestions on a speaker or a place to hold a future meeting, please feel free to share your ideas with us.
Don’t forget to respond to your Evite for June 17th! I hope you can join us!
Yours in Skål,
Becky Reincke President
