President’s Letter – June, 2005By Dick Stafford Greetings fellow Skålleagues! For those of you who did not attend the June meeting at the Holiday Inn in Highland Beach, you missed a great evening. The venue overlooking the ocean was beautiful and the Caribbean Buffet had a wide variety of sumptuous foods with everyone going back for at least seconds. We were entertained through out the cocktail hour and dinner by Tim McCraig who provided wonderful music including a terrific repertoire - particularly impressive were his performances of Neil Diamond songs. Although the turnout was small with 16 members and 1 guest present, we were happy to see Scotty Cassidy back with us after his knee replacement surgery. Bill Pullen was also back from his recent travels. Bill provided us with the background on the summer Region IV Congress and golf tournament which this year is in Jacksonville August 25-28. You will remember that our club hosted the event last year at the Hilton Hotel on Singer Island. We had a very successful congress last year thanks to all of Bill Pullen's efforts and guidance. Make sure you make your reservations for the Jacksonville summer Congress. During the meeting the board announced three new exciting upcoming events for our members. Please mark your calendars and make your reservations as soon as possible. Saturday July 9, 2005 - Our annual summer golf tournament will be held at the Westchester Country Club in Boynton Beach. The cost is $75.00 per person which includes golf, golf cart and the luncheon at the conclusion of the tournament. Contact Mike Gulotty or Paul Cook for complete registration details. Saturday August 6, 2005 - The club will have its first summer picnic for members and their families. This should be a great social event for everyone. Lee Smolinski has gratuitously offered us the use of his home for the picnic. The club will furnish all of the food for the traditional BBQ feast and much more for the cost of $12.00 per person. Each member and their guests are responsible for bringing their own beverages. You will receive an e-mail notice calling for your RSVP in early July with all of the details including time and directions.
Saturday & Sunday November 5-6, 2005 - You are invited to join your fellow Skalleagues on a 1-night cruise aboard the brand new ship
The Norwegian Jewel departing from the port of Miami. The Norwegian ship features freestyle cruising with 10 restaurants, a casino,
showroom and an array of leisure and sporting activities. The cost per person for an inside cabin is $139.00, an oceanview cabin is
$ 149.00 per person and a balcony cabin is $199.00 per person. Boarding will start at approximately 1:30 PM on Saturday. The ship
will sail at 4PM and return to Miami at 7AM on Sunday. The price includes lunch, dinner, breakfast, all taxes and fees. Please
book the cruise and select your stateroom directly by clicking on the following website link: Once we know how many members will be on board, Lee will see if we can reserve one of the specialty restaurants for the club to have dinner together. Everyone should have received the e-mail from Paul Cook regarding Paul Bell being hospitalized. We all send him our best wishes. On another note concerning our members, Ron Stevens will be celebrating a birthday on August 25th - just another year closer to retirement Ron! We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. Don't forget to check the clubs website for additional club news and pictures. www.skalpalmbeaches.org. We look forward to seeing you at our summer events. SKAL
