President’s Letter – November, 2007Greetings Fellow Skålleagues! We enjoyed dinner at the Columbia Restaurant in West Palm Beach thanks to our host Lorrie Hero of the Tampa SKAL Club. We started the evening with Wine and Tapas. Dinner followed featuring the restaurant's famous Original "1905" Salad and a selection of entrée's followed by their famous flan dessert. Prior to enjoying the dinner the following guests were introduced: Sheila Alterman (wife of member Paul Alterman), Nancy Beiser (wife of Charlie Beiser), Ricardo Bustamante of New Vision Travel, Judy Berlin (wife of Peter Berlin), Marilyn Falkow (wife of Bernie Falkow), Jan West of the DC Club, Carlos Orta (Sales and Office Mgr of Palm Beach Airport Hilton), Nancy Kainer (wife of Bernhard Kainer), Clare Vazquez (Atlantic Pacific Insurance), Liana Gros of MSC Cruises and her husband Johan and our newest applicant for membership - Serena Ann Hoermann (eBoat Charters). During the dinner meeting I made a report on the happenings at the SKAL International Conference that was held in Antalya, Turkey this year. I was also able to present the club with banners from Antalya, Alanya and the Cappadocia clubs. In addition I presented the personal banner of the outgoing President of SKAL International, Litsa Papathanassi. Next year the conference will be held in Taipei, Taiwan to be followed in 2009 with Budapest, Hungary. At the World Congress I was proud to receive a certificate recognizing the club as having been in the top 10 of those considered for SKAL Club of the Year. The SKAL dues for 2008 will be $114.00. We will again offer 2 choices for the members regarding the dues/dinner program - $264.00 including 3 dinners and $514.00 including all 10 dinners. You will receive your invoice during December and dues are payable by January 15, 2007. As you know we are required to pay all member dues to SKAL International by January 31, 2007. Any individual's dues that are not received by then will not be included in the 2008 membership roster. Members, can pay for their dues, dinners and auction purchases by credit card, check or cash. The Board announced the boards nominating committee's selection for the slate of officers and board members for next year. They are:
Club Executive Secretary Treasurer - Carlos Banks The slate of officers was approved by the members present and the election will be held at the January Meeting. You have received the invitation, courtesy of Jawayne Keyser, to attend the ASME December Charity Luncheon on Friday December 14th at the Gallery Hotel on Sunrise in Ft. Lauderdale at the IntraCoastal. ASME members have joined us at our past meetings and have been gracious enough to invite us to this event. Your invitations will be forthcoming shortly and you are requested to RSVP. Paul Cook is still holding membership cards for some of you so please pick them up when you come to the Holiday Dinner. Our SKAL December Holiday Dinner Dance & Auction will be held at The Bridge Restaurant in Boca Raton on December 18th. The evening is shaping up to be a very enjoyable event. We have a terrific menu and music will be provided all evening for your listening and dancing pleasure. We are asking all of our members to donate something for our annual silent auction which will be held that night. In the past we have had many terrific items including gift certificates from hotels, cruise and airline packages, wine, gift baskets, CD's and other intriguing valuables. The proceeds of the auction are used to support the charities that SKAL International and our club are involved with. Dick Stafford is heading up this years auction.
