President’s Letter – November, 2008

Greetings Fellow Skålleagues!

Our November meeting was held at the new Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Resort on AIA. Thanks go to the staff of the restaurant an enjoyable evening. From the wine bar cocktail hour with hot hor's d'oeuvres thru the dinner, an enjoyable everyone was had by all attendees.

The opening toast was given by our newest member, Tom Miller Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hilton West Palm Beach Airport.

Guests at the meeting included Jan West, a member of the Washington, DC SKAL Club, Marilyn Falkow wife of member Bernie Falkow who also brought Robert Betancourt a golf pro at the South Florida Golf Academy in Pompano Beach, my guest was Ricardo Bustamante, Lucy Montesinos Manager of Central America air consolidation with Young Travel of Plantation came as the guest of Teresa Nix, Robert Terzick of ITravel Insured was the guest of Heidi Bruni, and Becky Reincke honored us again with the presence of her now new husband Dave Herman. We were happy to welcome again the guest of Cloie Morales, Vesla Jaksonsen a member of SKAL Viken, Norway. Vesla presented the club with a letter from their president and their club banner.

Our club will be represented by our SIUSA Rep Dick Stafford at the upcoming NAASC/SIUSA General Meeting in Anchorage, Alaska which will be held from May 7th - 10th. All SKAL members are encouraged to go to the National Meeting as well as the International Conference in Budapest November 1, next year. The 2010 International Conference will be in Australia. It was my pleasure to present pins and officially induct the following new members: Gail Gruenbaum, Loretta DeMeo and Tom Miller. We are now 56 members strong and we have a number of prospective members anxious to join.

Nominations from the floor were then entertained and Bonnie Brown nominated Art Stark for a position on the Board of Directors which he graciously accepted.

James Hansen has been heading up our drive for auction items for the upcoming December 16th holiday black tie dinner. So far his results have been nothing less than spectacular and with each members help this will truly be a memorable silent auction. He can be reached at 561 707-0230 for any additional auction item donations which are still needed.

Next month's venue, our Holiday Party, is on December 16th, at the Bridge Resort in Boca Raton. January 20th 2009 will find us at the Chef's Palette in Ft. Lauderdale. February 17th we will be at the Marriott West Palm Beach, March 17th Le Bistro Restaurant in Lighthouse Point and on April 21st our Black Tie Installation Dinner will again be at the Hilton West Palm Beach Airport.

December 5th, ASME and fellow SKAL member Jawayne Keyser, has invited all to attend their holiday luncheon to be held on Las Olas in Ft. Lauderdale. They will be having a raffle with great prizes.
